William Charles Anfield was born in 1899 the son of the late William Leon Anfield, a baker and confectioner, and Rebecca Annie Anfield (née Alton).
His father was born in 1873 in Paris France, his mother in 1871 at Nottingham. Married in 1896 at Nottingham, they had three children - William Charles b.1899 Sheffield, Stanley b.1905 Nottingham and Harold b.1906 Nottingham.
In 1901 the family lived at 260 Glossop Road, Sheffield.
William Leon died in 1906 aged 33.
In 1911 they lived at 39 Crossman Street, Sherwood Nottingham. William Charles Alton was away at boarding school in London at the time.
Private William Charles Anfield enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 13th battalion Yorkshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 9th April 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Belgium
