Henry Martin was born in 1885 at Nottingham, he was the son of Henry (born 1835 at Bassingham) and Jane Elizabeth Hare (born 1839 at Boothby Pgnall, Lincolnshire) they were married in 1859 at Grantham.
Henry Martin married Violetta Needham (born 19th February 1883 Nottingham ) they were married in 3rd October 1903 at St Stephens Church, Sneinton, they lived at 2 Princes Place, Upper Eldon Street, Sneinton, they had 2 children Alfred Henry born 11th Febraury 1907 and George born 14th December 1911
In the 1911 census the family lived at 3 Prince's Place, Upper Eldon Street Nottingham Henry 26 yrs is a brass bobbin hand, he is living with his wfie Violetta 26 yrs a curtain hand and their son Alfred 4 yrs of age,
Commencing 4th June 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 22 shillings and 11 pence a week.
His widow married Herbert Thomas Brothwell on 18th Febraury 1918 they lived at 13 Fairholme Terrace, Storer Street, Nottingham.
Private Henry Martin enlisted on 11th September 1914 at Nottingham, posted on the same day to Pontefract to join the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. he was transferred on 22nd September 1914 to the York and Lancaster Regiment. He embarked from Folkstone to Boulogne on 10th August 1916, he was killed in action on 14th November 1916 he is buried at Sailly-Au-Bois Military Cemetery, France.
