Family history

Frank Bramhall was born in 1880 at Basford, he was the son of James Bramhall (1844-1906 Sheffield) a hotel keeper and Ellen Bramhall née Stones (1844-19191 Sheffield) they were married in 1865 at Sheffield and went on to have 9 children.

Frank married Ellen Powell (born 24th December 1884 Beeston ) on 12th November 1904 at Nottingham, they lived at 8 Burgess Terrace, Storer Street, Carlton Road, Nottingham, they had the following children, Lavinia Emma born 1st July 1907, Ernest born 27th August 1908, Doris born 7th January 1912 and James born 23rd July 1915.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 4 Frederick Place, Newark Street, Nottingha, Frank 30 yrs is a house painter, he is living with his wife Ellen 26 yrs and their children, Lavinia Emma 3 yrs, Ernest 2 yrs and Frank 1 year old.

Commencing 14th May 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 28 shilings and 9 pence a week.

Military history

Private Frank Bramhall enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the Manchester Regiment (service number 37878) he was killed in action on 7/8th October 1916 whilst serving with the 60th Company, Machine Gun Corps, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
