Family history

Henry Starr was born in 1890 at Beeston, he was the son of Mary Starr née Bottomer and the late William Starr a domestic servant, coachman and the brother of Mary and Emma Starr.

His father William was born in 1854 at Beeston, his mother Mary Bottomer was born in 1852 at Beeston, they were married in 1872 at Beeston, they had 8 children sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 39 Gladstone Street Beeston Nottingham. Mary Starr 58 yrs a widow she is living with her son Harry 21 yrs a threader, Harry Grange 23 yrs son in law a hair dresser and Emma Grange (née Starr) 18 yrs and grandson Harry Grange 2 months old.

He was the husband of Elizabeth Clarke born 1st February 1891 at Chesterfield, they were married in 1913 at Nottingham, they lived at 144 Salsibury Street, Radford.

Commencing 15th May 1916 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.

His widow re married on 28th May 1917 to Clarence Raven.

Military history

Lance Corporal Henry Starr enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 10th battalion West Yorkshire Regiment, landing in France on 13th July 1915, he was killed in action on 28th October 1915, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate, Memorial, Belgium.
