Family history

Thomas Proctor Gardner (junior) was born in 1894 at Worksop, he was the son of Thomas Proctor Gardner (senior) and Mary Ellen Gardner née Key of 20 Holgate Road, Meadwos, Nottingham.

His father Thomas Proctor (senior) was born in 1873 at Worksop, his mother Mary Ellen Key was born in 1875 at Sheffield, they were married on 4th September 1893 at St John's Church, Worksop, they had 3 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood, their other surviving child was Rhonda born 1896 at Worksop.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 20 Holgate Road,Meadwos, Nottingham, Thomas Proctor Gardner (senior) 38 yrs is a wood sawyer, he is living with his wife Mary Ellen 36 yrs and their children, Thomas Proctor (junior) 17 yrs an assistant in a leather warehouse and Rhonda 15 yrs is cutter out.

Military history

Thomas Gardner enlisted at Nottingham on 2nd September 1914, giving his age as 20 yrs and 7 months old, he was a warehouseman (Boots) he served with the 8th battalion Leicestershire Regiment, he landed in France on 29th July 1915. He was promoted to Lance Corporal on 26th August 1916, he was killed in action on 25th September 1916, he is buried at Guards Cemetery, Lesboeufs, France.
