Family history

Arthur Brookhouse was born in 1888 at Carrington, Nottingham he lived at 72 Flewitt Street, Alfred Street South Nottingham. He was the son of William a lace maker and the late Elizabeth Brookhouse née Stevens.

His father was born in 1854 at Carrington his mother Elizabeth Stevens was born in 1853 also at Carrington, she died in 1909 aged 56 yrs, they were married on 7th December 1873 at St Pauls Church, Nottingham, they went on to have 6 children.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 72 Flewitt Street, Nottingham, William 57 yrs is a widow he is a lace maker, he is living with his wchildren, Mary 37 yrs a house keeper, George 26 yrs a lace maker, Arthur 23 yrs a cyle enameller and Alice 21 yrs an apron maker.

Military history

Private Arthur Brookhouse enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1/4th battalion Northumberland Fusiliers he was killed in action on 15th September 1916 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
