Family history

Thomas (Tom) Hayes was born in 1898 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Joseph a boot repairer and Annie Hayes née Lindley of 10 Moffatt Street, Southampton Street, St Ann's Nottingham.

His father Joseph was born in 1851 at Thurmaston, Leicestershire, he died in 1917 aged 66 yrs his mother Annie Linfley was born in 1864 at Rotherham, they were married in 1878 their marriage was recorded in the Stamford registration district they went on to ave 17 children, sadly 10 were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 10 Moffatt Street, Nottingham, Joseph Mayes 60 yrs is a boot repairer, he is living with his wife Annie 50 yrs and their childen, Ernest 20 yrs a labourer, Annie 18 yrs a lace mender, Leonard 14 yrs an errand boy, Tom 13 yrs a scholar, Ben 12 yrs a scholar and Herbert 4 years of age.
