Family history

James Richardson was born in 1876 at Chevingon, Suffolk , he was the son of John Richardson M.D.and Sarah Harriet Richardson née Savage

His father John was born in 1817 at Hindon, Wiltshire, his mother Sarah Harriett Savage was born in 1841 at Hundon Suffolk, she died in 1896 at Risbidge, Suffolk she was 55 yrs of age, they were married in 1870 at Risbridge, Suffolk, they had 2 further children, Annie born 1874 and Eleanor born 1876.

James marrried his Maire Bircher (born 29th December 1877 Long Eaton) in 1903 at Derby, they lived at 69 Shaftsbury Street, Derby.

In the 1911 census they were living at 1 Manthorpe Road, Grantham, James Richardson 33 yrs a machine engineer and Marie 32 yrs of age,

Commencing 1st January 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 6 pence a week which increased on 4th April 1917 to 16 shillings and 3 pence a week.

They later lived in the West Bridgford area.

Military history

Sergeant James Richardson enlisted at Ashford, Kent, he served with the 11th battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 7th July 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
