Family history

William Sydney Brewitt was born in 1892 at Nottingham, he was the son of George William an insurance agent and Harriet Jane Brewitt née Brewitt, of 25 Watcombe Circus, Carrington, Nottingham.

His father George William was born in 1860 at Nottingham, his mother Harriett Jane Brewitt was born in 1859 also at Nottingham, she died in 1915 aged 56 yrs, they were married in 1884 their marriage was recorded in the Nottinghamregistration district, they had the following children, George Watson, Philip Raymond, Louise Marie and Sarah Brewster Brewitt.

In 1911 they lived at 25 Watcombe Circus Carrington Nottingham, George William 51 yrs is an insurance agent, he is living with his wife Harriett Jane 52 yrs and their children, George Watson 24 yrs a lace warehouseman, Phillip Raymond 23 yrs a lace warehouseman, William Sydney 19 yrs a proces printer and Louise Marie 17 years of age.

His probate was proven on 9th February1917 at Nottingham, shows him as William Sydney Brewitt of Watcombe Circus, Carrington, Nottingham, Second Lieutenant in H.M.Army died on 29th June 1916 in France, his effects of £326, 5 shillings and 8 pence were left to Dorothy Mary Brewitt and Louise Marie Brewitt, spinsters.

Military history

Second Lieutenant William Sydney Brewitt enlisted and served with the Royal Field Artillery, landing in France on 30th January 1916 he had been transferred to the Royal Engineers and was killed in action on 29th June 1916, he is buried at Citadel New Military Cemetery, Fricourt, France.
