Family history

Edmund Nelson Oscroft was born in on 20th March 1897 at Mansfield, he was baptised on 15th April 1894 at St John's Church Mansfield, he was the son of Edmund Dove Oscroft a french polisher and Florence Mary Oscorft née Webb of 35 Baden Powell Road, Nottingham.

His father Edmund Dove Oscroft was born in 1873 at Nottingham, his mother Florence NMary Webb was born in 1877 at Cheltenham, they were married on 10th September 1896 at Ilkeston parish church, they had 4 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 35 Baden Powell Road, Nottingham, Edmund 37 yrs is a french polisher is living with his wife Florence Mary 34 yrs and their children, Edmund Nelson 14 yrs an errand boy for a book seller, Archibald 11 yrs and Ella 10 yrs of age.

Military history

Trooper Edmund Nelson Oscorft enlisted with the service number 1938 into the South Nottinghamshire Hussars, he later served with the 17th battalion Machine Gun Corps, he died of dysentry on 10th June 1916 aged 19 yrs.

'Oscroft. Died of dysentery, June 10th 1916, Trooper Edmund Nelson, aged 19 years, eldest son of Edmund and Florence Oscroft, 35 Baden Powell Road.'
