William Vickers was born in 1887 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Henry Vickers a card puncher and Harriet Vickers née Radford of 1 Chadburn Street, Dame Agnes Street Nottingham.

His father Henry was born in 1850 at Basford, Nottingham, he died in 1914 aged 64 yrs, his mother Harriet Radford was born in 1894 at Nottingham, they were married on 24th January 1870 at St Mary's Church, Nottingham, the went on to have 9 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 cenus his parents were living at 1 Laburnham Cottages, Laurel Street, Nottingham, Henry 61 yrs is a card puncher (lace trade) he is living with his wife Harriett 61 yrs

In the same 1911 census William has left the family home, he has enlisted in the army, he is shown as being 23 yrs and is with the 1st battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, who are in barracks at Hong Kong

Military history

Corporal William Vickers enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1st battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light infantry, he was killed in action on 4th October 1915, he is buried at Bezu-Le-Guery Communal Cemetery,France.
