Family history

Horace William Tomlinson was born on 3rd January 1895, he was baptised on 5th March 1895 at St Saviours Church, London, he was the son of William Herny a sergeant in the Grenadier Guards and Annie Tomlinson née French of 77 Sedgley Ave, Nottingham.

His father William Henry Tomlinson was born in 1871 at Nottingham, his mother Annie French was born in 1870 at Longford, Middlesex, they were married on 24th March 1894 at St Stephens Church, Westminster, London, they went on to have 6 children.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 77 Sedgley Ave, Nottingham, William Henry 40 yrs is a recruiting sergeant with the Grenadier Guards, he is living with his wife Annie 41 yrs and 5 children.

In the same 1911 census Horace is living in barracks at Westminster, he is 16 yrs of age and an officers servant in the 3rd Grenadier Guards.

He lived on Cromer Road, Coppice Road St Ann's Nottingham.

Military history

Drummer Horace William Tomlinson enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 2nd battalion Grenadier Guards, he died of wounds on 14th October 1915, he is buried at Chocques Military Cemetery, France
