Family history

Percy William Dunbar was born on 18th March 1882 he was baptised on 2nd July 1882 at the Presbyterian Church, Manchester, he was the son of the late Hugh a shirt shop manager and Rose Annie Dunbar née Lee

His father Hugh was born in 1839 at Kirkinner, he died in 1893 aged 54 yrs, his mother Rose Annie Lee was born in 1848 at Hulme, Manchester, they were married on 9th September 1872 at the Cavendish Church, Chorlton Cum Hardy, they went onto have 8 children.

Percy William married Vanda Axon (born 11th January 1885 Manchester ) in 1906 at Chorlton cum Hardy they had 2 children, Ronald William born 28th November 1908 and John Charles born 23rd April 1911

In 1911 they lived at 53 Leonard Avenue Sherwood Nottingham Percy William 29 yrs is a fire insurance surveyor, he is living with his wife Vanda 26 yrs and their son Ronald William 2 years old.

Commencing 22nd November 1915 his widow was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 6 pence a week.

Military history

Lance Corporal Percy William Dunbar enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Blackpool, he served with the 1st battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment he was killed in action on 12th March 1915, age 32, during the counter-attack by the Germans at Neuve Chapelle, France.

Having no known grave his name is commemorated: Le Touret Memorial, France. Panel 26 and 27.
