Family history

James Fowler was born in 1887 at Nottingham, he was the son of James Joseph Fowler a cabinet maker and Rose Fowler née Geeling of 10 Longden Street, Bath Street Sneinton Nottingham.

His father James Joseph was born in 1852 at Nottingham, his mother Rose Ann Geeling was born in 1864 at Nottingham, they were married in 1885 at Newcastle on Tyne, they went on to have 11 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 10 Longden Street, Sneinton, Nottingham, James Joseph 59 yrs is a cabinet maker, he is living with his wife Rose Ann 47 yrs and 7 of their children.

In the same 1911 census James has joined the Army he is living in barracks in India, he is 24 yrs of age and is serving wit the 1st battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment.

Military history

Lance Corporal James Fowler enlisted on 31st October 1905 at Nottingham, giving his age as 19 yrs and 6 months he was a general labourer, he joined the Royal Warwickshirw Regiment on 2nd November 1905, he served in India in 1908 and was posted to the reserves on 21st March 1913. Embodied for service on 5th August 1914 he was posted to the 4th Division Cyclist Coy. Landing in France on 22nd August 1914 he was killed in action on 8th May 1915 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial, Belgium. ,
