Family history

Charles Frederick Shelton was born in 1887 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Henry Shelton a lace warehouse man and the late Harriet Shelton née Street of 18 Park Avenue West Bridgford Nottingham.

His father Henry was born oin 1858 at Notingham, he died in 1904 at Nottingham he was 48 yrs old, his mother Harriett Street, was born in 1859 at Nottingham, she died in 1904 aged 45 yrs, they were married in 1883 at Nottingham, they went on to have 8 children.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 39 Peas Hill Rise, Nottingham, Charles Frederick 24 yrs is head of the family he is 24 yrs of age, he is a lace warehouseman, he is living with his 6 brothers and sisters including Leslie Cecil 15 yrs of age and a clerk.

His probate proven on 24t August 1915 with will at Nottingham, shows Charles Frederick Shelton of 18 Park AVe, West Bridgford, a lance corporal in H.M.Army died on 9th May 1915 in France, his effects of £335, 10 shillings and 4 pence were left to Percy Harold Shelton (his brother) a warehouseman.

Lance Corporal Charles Frederick Shelton enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1st battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 9th May 1915, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial.

His brother Private Leslie Cecil Shelton enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served wit the service number 19911 in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps he was serving wit the 2nd battalion Lancashire Regiment when he was killed in action on 9th August 1918 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.
