Family history

Edward Derrick was born in 1884 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late William Joynes an iron moulder and the late Eliza Derrick née Straw in 1901 they lived at 155 Dame Agnes Street, St Ann's Nottingham.

His father William was born in 1838 at Nottingham, he died in 1907 aged 68 yrs, his mother Eliza Straw was born in 1840 at Nottingham she died in 1913 aged 73 yrs, they were married on 2nd September 1861 at St Mary's Church, Nottingham they went on to have 9 children.

Edward married Elizabeth Green (born 14th April 1886) on 25th December 1908 at St Ann's, Nottingham,they lived at 29 Sketchley Street, Blue Bell Hill Road St Ann's, Nottingham, they had a daughter Noreen born 19th June 1912.

Commencing 2nd June 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week.

Military history

Private Edward Derrick enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 55678 of the 83rd TR Bn, he was serving with the 1/4th battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, he died of pneumonia on 21st November 1918 he is buried at Cambrai East Military cemetery, France.

Nottingham Evening Post Roll of Honour 30/11/1918:

'Derrick. Died of influenza in France , November 21st 1918, Private E. Derrick, dearly loved husband of Elizabeth Derrick (née Green), 29 Sketchley Street. Beautiful memories, shattered hopes. Sorrowing wife and daughter.'

'Derrick. Died in France of pneumonia, Pte. Ted Derrick, K.O.Y.L.I. Peace after pain. Sorrowing brother Bob and sisters Annie and Nance, brother in law Ernest (in France) and nieces Jennie, Annie and Alice.'
