Family history

William Vincent Barlow was born on 23rd August 1893 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late William Barlow a licensed beer off keeper and Elizabeth Barlow (née Williams).

His father William was born in 1858 at Bury, Lancashire, he died in 1900 aged 53 yrs, his mother Elizabeth Williams was born in 1850 at Nottingham, they were married in 1870 at Nottingham, they had a further child a daughter Elizabeth Mary born 1875.

William Vincent married Gertrude Nellie Rice (born 22nd February 1884) on 24th December 1903 at St Stephens Church, Sneinton, Nottingham, they lived at 12 Haydn Avenue Sherwood Nottingham and had 2 daughter Phyllis Nellie born 1907 died 1908 and Florence Elizabeth Hilda born 28th December 1911.

Commencing 2nd June 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 8 pence a week.

Military history

William Vincent Barlow enlisted on 22 April 1915 at Nottingham. Age 31y 8m, occupation grocer, home address 5 Upper Eldon Street, Sneinton, Nottingham.

He served with the 6th Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment. William died from pneumonia following influenza on 20 November 1918 and was buried in Solesmes British Cemetery, France.
