Family history

Harby Johnson was born in 1879 at Ledenham, he was the son of Willie Johnson a baker and Elizabeth Ann Leeman of Ledenham.

His father Willie Johnson was born in 1857 at Bouthorpe, Lincolnshire, he died in 1910 aged 53 yrs his mother Elizabeth Ann Leeman was born in 1858 at Spisby,Lincolnshire, they were married in 1877 at Spilsby, Lincolnshire, they went on to have 6 children.

In the 1911 census his widowed mother Elizabeth Ann 52 yrs and a grocer is living with her children, Walter 26 yrs a joiner and painter and Alice Elizabeth 13 yrs of age, they are residing at Ledenham, Lincolnshire.

Harby married Sarah Ann Garner (born 22nd December 1882 at Blackwell, Derbyshire, they were married on 5th August 1907 at St Wilfrid's Church, Wilford, Nottingham, they lived at 5 Handel Street, Nottingham, they had a son Harby William Johnson born 12th April 1915.

In the 1911 census they are living at 5 Handel Street, Nottingham, Harby 31 yrs is baker and confectioner, he is living with his wife Sarah Ann 28 yrs of age.

Commencing 20th May 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week.

Military history

Private Harby Johnson enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 359545 in the Royal Armyy Service Corps, he was serving with the 2nd battalion Manchester Regiment when he was killed in action he is buried at Orys Communal cemetery, France
