Family history

William Arthur Rowland was born in 1894 at Manchester he was baptised on 30th May 1894 at Manchester, he was the son of James Arthur a gas meter maker and Fanny Rowland née Bailey and the brother of Sidney, Florence and Arthur Rowland.

His father James Arthur was born in 1871 at Grantham, his mother Fanny Bailey was also born in 1871 at Grantham, they were married in 1893 at Grantham, they went on to have 4 children.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 11 Rosetta Road Basford Nottingham James Arthur 40 yrs is a gas meter maker, he is living with his wife Fanny 40 yrs and their children, William Arthur 16 yrs a lace trade jacker off, Sidney James 15 yrs an iron turner, Florence Bailey 10 yrs a scholar and Arthur 13 yrs a grocers errand boy.

Military history

Private William Arhtur Rowlnad enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served witht service number 2282 in the South Notts Husssars, he was killed in action on 26th October 1918 whilst serving with the 101st (Bucks & Berks) Bn, Machine Gun Corps, he is buried at Cement House Cemetery, Belgium
