Arthur Barber was born in 1892 at Chard, Somerset, he was the son of the late Jesse Barber and Sarah Ann Barber née Silvester,
His father Jessie was born in 1860 at Chard, he died in 1899 aged 39 yrs t his mother Sarah Ann Silvester was born in 1859 at Chard, Somerset they were married on 7th December 1879 in Somerset , they had 4 children.
Following the deeath of his father his mother went on to marry Joseph Walker born 1841 at Radford, they were married in 1893 at Nottingham.
In the 1911 census Arthur is living at 52 Oldham Road, Nottingham, his widowed mother Sarsh Ann Walker 52 yrs is living with her children, Walter Barber 29 yrs a lace maker, William Barber 24 yrs a lace maker, Arthur Barber 20 yrs a stoker and Edith Barber 16 yrs of age. (she gives the information that she has had 8 children, sadly 3 had died in infancy or early childhood.)
Arthur was the husband of Daisy Bagshaw, whom he married on 3rd August 1912 at St Matthias Church, Sneinton, they lived at 59 Oldham Street Carlton Road Nottingham they had 4 children, Arthur Bertram born 1912, Lewis born 1914, Maise born 1916 and William born 1919.
Private Arthur Barber enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 268424 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment he later served with the 1/6th battalion South Staffordshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 29th September 1918 and is buried at Bellicourt British Cemetery, France
