John Brassington was born in 1895 at Birmingham he was the son of the late William John a brass founder and the late Fanny Elizabeth Brassington née Avis.

His father William John Brassington was born in 1858 at Birmingham he died in 1910 aged 52 yrs, his mother Fanny Elizabeth Avis was born in 1856 at Cardiff, she died in 1895 aged 39 yrs, they were married on 2nd May 1885 at St Andrews Bordsley, Warwickshire, they had two further sons William Tallis born 1886 Birmingham and Thomas Griffin born 1889 Birmingham

In the 1911 census John is living with his brothers at 7 Victoria Road, Erdington, Birmingham, head of the household is his elder brother William Tallis Bassington 24 yrs and engraver, his other brother Thomas Griffin is 22 yrs and a manufacturers clerk, John is 15 yrs and is a manufacturers clerk

John lived at 28 Hawkridge Street, Robin Hood Street St Ann's Nottingham.

Military history

Private John Brassington enlisted at Birmingham, he initally served with the service number 24142 in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment later transferring to the Cheshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 23rd October 1918, he is buried at Amerval Communal Cemetery extension, Solesmes, France.
