Family history

Walter Bestwick was born in 1882 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Frederick a brickyard labourer and Mary Bestwick née Newbold of Nottingham.

His father Frederick was born in 1852 at Radford, he died in 1886 aged 34 yrs his mother Mary Newbold was born in 1853 at Carlton, they were married in 1873 at Gedling they had 3 children.

Walter married Florence Marshall (born 18th November 1883 ) in 1905 at Nottingham, they had 4 children, Beatrice born 29th August 1905 , Florence born 11th August 1908, Joseph born 1906 and Nellie Bestwick born 1906

In the 1911 census the family lived at 36 Sheridan Street Bulwell Nottingham Walter 29 yrs is a brickyard labourer, he is living with his wife Florence 27 yrs and their children, Beatrice 5 yrs of age and Florence 2 yrs of age.

Military history

Private Walter Bestwick enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 11th battalion Northumberland Regiment, he was killed in action on 7th July 1916, during the Battle of Albert, he is buried at Gordon Dump cemetery, Ovillers-La-Boisselle, France
