Family history

James Arthur Fisher was born in 1888 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Geore Fisher a tailor and his second wife Betsy Fisher née Thornhill of Nottingham.

His father George was born in 1835 at Elston, he died in 1904 aged 69 yrs, his first wife Elizabeth Ann Ball born 1842 at Newark she died in 1875 at Newark aged 33 yrs they were married in 1861 at Newark, they went on to have 6 children.

Following the deat of his first wife his father went on to remarry Betsy Thornhill (born 1851 at Beeston) they went on to have 5 children.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 3 Hartwell Terrace Alfred Street South Nottingham Betsy 59 yrs a widow is living with her sons James Arthur 22 yrs a shop assistant and Charles 20 yrs a shop assistant.

Military history

Private Jaes Arthur Fisher enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 2339 in the South Notts Hussars, he was serving with the 60th battlaion Machine Gun Corps when he was killed in action in Palestine and is buried at Ramleh War Cemetery, Israel.
