Family history

Charles Davis was born in 1893 at Nottingham, he was the son of James Davis a boot and shoe repairer and the late Hannah Davis née Chadwick of 5 Pump Street, Nottingham.

His father James was born in 1857 at Nottingham his mother Hannah Chadwick was born in 1856 at Derby, she died in 1910 aged 54 yrs, they were married on 5th February 1876 at St Marys Church, Nottingham, they had 2 further children, Hannah born 1887 and James born 1884.

In the 1911 census the family are living at Pump Street, Nottigham, his widowed father James 54 yrs is a boot and shoe repairer, he is living with his sons James 27 yrs a coal miner and Charles 18 yrs a lace dresser.

Military history

Private Charles Davis enlisted at Nottingham, he served with 13th battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he was reported missing in action and later confirmed as killed in action on 26th September 1915 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.
