Family history

Frederick William Malin was born in 1899 at Nottingham, he was baptised on 6th August 1899 at Christ Church, Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, he was the son of Willaim a crane driver for the Midland Railways, and Emily Jane Malin née Matthews of 22 St Stephen's Avenue Sneinton Nottingham.

His father William was born in 1871 at Cotgrave, his mothe Emily Jane Matthews was born in 1871 at Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, they were married on 20th August 1898 at Christ Church, Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, they went on to have 3 children,sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family were living at 22 St Stephens Ave, Sneinton Nottingham, William 40 yrs is a crane driver for the Midland railways, he is living with his wife Emily 40 yrs and their son Frederick 11 yrs a scholar.

Military history

Private Frederick William Malin enlisted on 8th June 1917 at Nottingham, giving his address as 22 St Stephens Ave, Sneinton, Nottingham, giving his age as 17 yrs and 343 days, he was a litho feeder his next of kin was his father William of the same address, he was posted to the reserves. Moilised for war on 4th August 1917 he was posted to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He landed in France on 9th July 1918 and was serving with the 2/4th battalion West Yorkshire Regiment when he was killed in action on 25th August 1918 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Vis-En-Artois Memorial, France.
