Family history

Ernest Jennings was born in 1884 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Thomas Jennings a frame work knitter and Sarah Jennings née Wright of 14 Newthorpe Street, London Road, Nottingham.

His father Thomas was born in 1851 at Nottingham, he died in 1892 aged 41 yrs, his mother Sarah Wright was born in 1851 at Shepshed, Leicestershire, she died in 1913 aged 62 yrs, they were married in 1874 their marriage was recorded in the Loughborough registratio district, they went onto have 3 children. their 2 further children were Thoma born 1877 and Charles born 1878

In the 1911 census the family lived at 14 Newthorpe Street London Road Nottingham. his mother Sarah 61 yrs a widow and cab proprietress is living with her son Ernest 25 yrs a lace warehouseman.

Ernest was the husband of Ada Sturgess (born 7th December 1890) they were married on 25th December 1916 at St Savious Church, Nottingham, they lived at 33 Globe Street, Arkwright Street, Nottingham.

Commencing 24th June 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 15 shillings a week.

Military history

Private Ernest Jennings enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 15th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 20th October 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot mmorial, Belgium
