Arthur Horton was born in 1892, he was baptised on 16th May 1894 at St John's Church, Bulwell he was the son of John Charles (James) a coal miner loader and Phoebe Horton née Padmore and the brother of Ada and Nellie Horton of 5 Pearson Street, Old Basford.
His father John Charles (James) was born in 1863 at Bulwell his mother Phoebe Padmore was born in 1861 at Melton Mowbray, they were maried on 25th December 1884 at St John's Church, Bulwell.
In the 1911 census the family lived at 20 Mount Pleasant Old Basford Nottingham, James 45 yrs is a coal miner loader, he is living with his wife Phoebe 45 yrs and their children, Ada 19 yrs a lace bleach dresser, Nellie 15 yrs a lace bleach dresser and Arthur 19 yrs a tan yard labourer.
Private Arthur Horton enlisted at Doncaster he served with the 12th Bn, King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, he was killed in action on 1st July 1916 on the first day of the battle of 'The Somme' having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
