Family history

Ernest Terry was born in 1891 at Leeds, he was the son of Joseph a brick layer and the late Sarah Ann Terry née Ogden of 4 Peake Terrace, Palm Street, Basford.

His father Joseph was born in 1860 at Basford, Nottingham, his mother Sarah Ann Ogden was born in 1862 at Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, she died in1902 aged 40 yrs, they were married on 13th October 1884 at Christ Church , Radford, they had 5 children.

Ernest was lodging at 18 Suez Street Northgate Basford in 1911

He married Minnie Derbyshire Hodges (born 28th May 1892) on 3rd April 1915 at St Peters Church, Nottingham, they lived at 3 Main Street, New Basford, Nottingham.

Commencing 7th January 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military history

Lance Corporal Ernest Terry enlisted at Nottingham, he initialy served with the service number 55731 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 9th June 1917 whilst serving with the 7th battalion South Staffordshire Regiment, he is buried at Messines Ridge british cemetery, Belgium
