Family history

Phillip Kimbley was born in 1895 at Langwith, Derbyshire, he was the son of Phillip Abraham Kimbley a coal miner hewer and the late Jane Kimbley née Deller of Bulwell, Nottingham.

His father Phillip Abraham was born in 1863 at Stafford, his mother Jane Deller was born in 1866 at Gourston, Cambridgeshire, she died in 1910 aged 44 yrs, they were married in 1884 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 7 children.

In 1911 they lived at 7 Anchor Terrace, Main Street, Bulwell, Phillip Abraham 48 yrs a widow is a coal miner hewer, he is living with his children, Alfred Abraham 21 yrs a coal miner hewer, Gertie 18 yrs a house keeper,Walter 14 yrs a coal miner pony driver Harold 11 yrs and Albert 10 yrs.

He was the husband of Florence Clara Daft (born 29th May 1892) they were married on 10th June 1916 at St Matthias Church, Sneinton, they lived at 58 Leighton Street Nottingham and 23 Mersey Street, Bulwell.

Commencing 18th November 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military history

Gunner Phillip Kimbley attested on 7th December 1915 at Nottingham, giving his address as 23 Mersey Street, Nottingham, his age as 21 yrs and 9 months he was a coal miner, he was posted to the reserves.

He was mobilised on 1st May 1916 and posted to the Royal Garrison Artillery, he landed in France on 25th January 1917 he was killed in action on 27th April 1918 and is buried at Red Farm Military Cemetery, Belgium.

'Kimbley. Killed in action April 27th, Gunner P Kimbley (Phil), RGA, the beloved husband of Florrie Kimbley of 58 Leighton Street, also late of Bulwell. - Loving wife.'
