Family history

William Francis (junior) was born in 1888 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late William Francis (senior) a silk mill manager and his 3rd wife Harriet Reddish née Smith Mann and the brother of Nellie Reddish.

His father was born in 1825 at Macclesfield, he died in 1896 at Nottingham, he was 71 years old, his mother hHarriett was born in 1847 at Colchester they were married inon 26th July 1868 at St Martin's Church Colchester, they had 5 children.

His father William Frances Reddish had two previous wives, the first Louisa Hammersley (1825-1851) whom he married in 1845 at St Lawrence Church, Rushton Spencer, Staffordshire, they one child Mary Reddish (1847-1914).

His second wife was Margaret Cain (1830-1867) whom he married in 1852 at Ashton Under Lyne, Lancashire, they had 4 children.

In the 1911 cenus his family is living at 43 Hawkridge Street, Campbell Strret, Robin Hood Street, Nottingham, hsi widowed mother Harriett 64 yrs is living with two of her children, Nellie 30 yrs an elementary school teacher and William Francis 23 yrs a hosiery stock keeper.

Military history

Lance Corporal William Francis Reddish enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 37015 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he later transferred to the 5th battalion Oxford and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, he was killed in action on 9th April 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
