James Dolan was born in 1883 at Nottingham, he was the son of John a brick layers labourer and Winifred Dolan née McKenny and the brother of Mary Dolan. In 1901 they lived at 20 Washington Street, Colwick Street, Brook Street Sneinton Nottingham.

his father John was born in 1844 at Nottingham, his mother Winifred McKenny was born in in 1847 at Mays, Ireland, they were married in 1880 at Nottingham, they had 2 children,

John and Mary lived at 9 Cross Street Sneinton in 1911, John 67 yrs is a brick layers labourer, Winifred 64 yrs is a lace dresser they have been married 30 yrs and have had 2 children.

Military history

Air Mechanic 2nd class James Dolan initially served with the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he later transferred to the 47th Kite Balloon Section, Royal Flying Corps, he died of wounds (accidental) on 4th February 1918 he is buried at Mendingham Military Cemetery.

Nottingham Evening Post Roll of Honour 12/2/1918:

'Dolan. Died of wounds (accidental), February 4th 1918 Pte (sic) James Dolan RFC, late Sherwood Foresters aged 35. They miss him most who loved him best.'
