Albert Edward Smith was born on 6th October 1880 at Sneinton, Nottingham, he was the son of William a brick layer and Martha Smith

Albert Edward was the husband of Alice Maud Douglas (born 9th June 1884 ) they were married on 8th May 1904 at St Wilfrid's church, Wilford, Nottingham, and the father of Albert William born 1st October 1904, Ellen born 11th November 1905, Thomas Henry born 27th January 1980, Leonard Douglas born 24th April 1910 Mabel born 19th July 1912, Edgar born 1st September 1914 and Lilian Smith born 18th November 1917.of 33 Goodhead Street Wilford Road Meadows Nottingham.

In 1911 the family lived at 6 Essex Street, Meadows Nottingham, Albert Edward 29 yrs a coal miner hewer is living with his wife Alice Maud 27 yrs and their children, Ellen 5 yrs, Thomas 3 yrs Leonard 1 month old, also living with the family is his sister in law Mabel Douglas 20 yrs abarmaid.

Commencing 6th May 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 46 shillings and 3 pence aweek.

Military history

Driver Albert Edward Smith enlisted at Nottingham, he served with 'C' Bty 34th Bde, Royal Field Artillery, he was killed in action on 17th October 1917 in France, he is buried at Canada Frm Cemetery, Belgium.
