Family history

John Richmond was born in 1889 at Gamston, Nottingham, he was the son of the late Henry a carter and Mary Richmond. née Pearson.

His father Henry was born in 1858 at Gamston, he died in 1904 at Nottingham aged 46 yrs, his mother Mary Pearson was born in 1858 at Heanor, they were married on 14th April 1884 at St Marys Church, Nottingham

In 1901 they lived at 6 Meadow Grove Meadow Lane and in 1911 John and his widowed mother lived at 31 Grainger Street (both Sneinton Nottingham).

John married Edith (Elizabeth) Davis born 19th October 1886 at Nottingham, they were married on 23rd August 1914 at St Matthias Church Sneinton, they had a daughter Winifred Emma born 14th August 1915

Commencing 13th May 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week.

Military history

Gunner John Richmond enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 101st Siege Bty Royal Garrison Artillery he was killed in action on 26th September 1917 he is buried at Wieltje Farm Cemetery, Belgium.

'Richmond. Killed in action September 26th Gunner J Richmond RGA. One of the best. - His sorrowing wife and baby, mother and relatives.'
