Arthur Denny was born in 1897 at Nottingham, he was the son of James Denny a dyer and the late Elizabeth Denny née Hatfield and the brother of Thomas, Arthur and Catherine Denny.
His father James was born in 1861 at Coventry, his mother Elizabeth Hatfield was born in 1859 at Gedling she died in 1902 aged 43 yrs, they were married on 21st December 1879 at St Matthias Church, Sneinton, they went on to have 9 children,
In the 1911 census the family were living at 8 Pomfret Street Sneinton Nottingham James 50 yrs is a widow and a dyer, he is living with Lueza Morton 50 yrs a widow and a house keeper and his children, Thomas 19 yrs a bleacher, Ernesy 17 yrs a vanman, Arthur 14 yrs an errand boy at a paepr merchants and Catherine 12 yrs a scholar.
The family later lived at 15 Alban Street, Elgin Street, Nottingham.
Arthur married Sarah Ann Payne (born 27th October 1897) on 5th September 1917 at St Peters Church, Nottingham, they lived at 2 Alban Street, Elgin Street, Notttingham.
Commencing 29th April 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.
Private Arthur Denny enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 7th battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps, he was killed in action on 12th October 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.

'Denny. Killed in action October 12th Rifleman Arthur Denny King's Royal Rifle Corps. From father, sisters and four brothers in France.'
