Family history

Clarence Benjamin Johnson was born in 1894 at Nottingham, he was the son of Benjamin a lace maker and Minnie Johnson née Walker of 266 Sherwood Street, Nottingham.

His father Benjamin Johnson was born in 1854 at Draycott, Derbyshire, his mother Minnie Walker was born in 1869 at Nottingham, they were married in 1899 at Nottingham, they had 7 children.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 54 High Church Street New Basford Nottingham, Benjamin 57 yrs is a lace maker, he is living with his wife Minnie 41 yrs a brass bobbin winder, they are living with their son Clarence Benjamin 17 yrs a domestic gardener.

Military history

Rifleman Clarence Benjamin Johnson enlistd on 17th May 1915 at Nottingham, giving his address as 93 Norwood Road, Radford, Nottingham, he was 21 yrs and 3 months old he was a gardener his next of kin was his father Benjamin of 266 Sherwood Street, Nottingham. He joined the Kin's Royal Rifle Corps on 28th May 1915. He landed in France on 29th December 1915. He was killed in action on 15th October 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial
