James Hynes was born in 1880 at Stockport, Cheshire, a newspaper article gives his address as 17 Fisher Gate, Nottingham.

His pension record cards show his next of kin as Eliza Hynes his mother of 3 Crownes Court, Norbury Street, Stockport she died on 13th February 1924 another card also gives details of his unmarried wife as Eliza Smith of 5 Carlisle Street, Stockport.

Military history

Private James Hynes enlisted at Stockport he served with the 2nd battalion Cheshire Regiment, He entered theatre (France) on 10th September 1915, he was killed in action on 3rd October 1917, having no known memorial his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, Belgium

'Hynes. Killed in action October 5th Private J Hynes Sherwood Foresters 17 Fisher Gate aged 37. A supreme sacrifice. - Sorrowing sisters.'
