George Henry Clayton was born on 24th November 1883 in Liverpool and was baptised at All Saints Church, Liverpool and was the son of John and Elizabeth Clayton.

George Henry married Mary Jane Fenton in 1912 at Liverpool, they lived at 81 Athol Street, Liverpool, they had 2 children, John born 17th October 1913 and May born 6th August 1915.

Commencing 28th April 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and 5 pence a week.

Military history

Sapper George Henry Clayton enlisted at Liverpool and initially served with service number 267934 in the King's Liverpool Regiment before transferring to the Royal Engineers, he died in Military Hospital, Bowbridge Road, Newark on 26th October 1918 of Influenza and Pneumonia he is buried in Liverpool (Ford) Roman Catholic Cemetery grave reference RD 145.
