Family history

Claude Hurd was born in 1884 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late William Hurd a rope maker and the late Emma Hurd née Murden of Nottingham.

His father William was born in 1848 at Nottingham, he died in 1908 at Nottingham aged 60 yrs yrs, his mother Emma Murden was born in 1846 at Radford, she died in 1919 at Nottingham she was aged 73 yrs they were married on 16th May 1869 at Nottingham St Peters Church, they had 7 children, sadly 3 were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 7 Snowden Terrace, Spring Close,Lenton his mother Emma Hurd 64 yrs is a widow and a sample hand, she is living with her daughter Eliza 19 yrs a twine bailer

Claude was the husband of Agnes Marriott (born 1886) they were married on 17th February 1906 at Lenton Priory Church, they had 2 daughters Florence Minnie born 6th August 1906 and and Gladys Mabel Hurd born 3rd March 1912.

Claude 26 yrs is a twine finisher, he is living with his wife Agnes 25 ys and their daughter Florence Minnie Hurd 4 yrs old.

His pension recod card recods his two daughters Florcne and Gladys, their guardian was Mrs Harriett Norris of 19 Wyville Street, Radford, she was awarded a pension of 10 shillings a week (motherless rate) commencing 8th May 1916 it states ' unworthy wife'

Military history

Lance Corporal Claude Hurd enlisted at Nottingham, he served wit the 1/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 13th October 1915, he is bured at Strand Militiary Cemetery, Belgium.
