John Wright was born in 1894 at Carlton, he was the son of Henry a bricklayers labourer and Emma Wright née Balding and the brother of James, Walter, Harry, Leslie, Kate and Amy Wright of 11 Foxhill Road, Carlton.
His father Henry was born in 1862 at Carlton, his mother Emma Jane Balding was born in 1861 at Louth, Lincolnshire, they were married in 1885 their marriage was recorded n the Spilsby registration district they had 9 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family lived at 15 Foxhill Road Carlton Nottingham. Henry 49 yrs is a brick layers labourer, he is living with his wife Emma 50 yrs and their children including John 17 yrs a gardener and green grocer.
John was the husband of Annie (née Hammond) Wright (born 22nd December 1890) and the father of Horace Wright born 23rd January 1914 they lived at 19 Niall Street, Radford.
Commencing 11th February 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 9 pence a week.
Private John Wright enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 17th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 1st August 1917 and is buried at Mendinghem Military Cemetery, Belgium. Plot 3. Row E. Grave 11.
