Family history

Harry was born on 10th April 1887 at Nottingham, he was baptised on 6th November 1895 at St Marys, Nottingham (along with his brother William) he was the son of William a brick layers labourer and the late Annie Haggar and the brother of Emma and William Haggar.

His father William was born in 1843 at Cambridge, he died in 1919 aged 75 yrs his mother Annie Maria was born in 1844 at Cheshire, she died in 1905 at Nottingham, aged 62 yrs they were maried and had 3 children,

In 1901 they lived at 3 Hoop Alley St Mary's Nottingham.

In the 1911 census William Hagger (senior) 67 rs a widow bricklayers labourer is living at 22 Victoria Place, Nottingham, he is living with his married son William Hagger (junior) 27 yrs a card board box cutter and his wife Lucy 24 yrs.

Military history

Private Henry Hagga (e)r was a regular in 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment) he enlisted at Nottingham, he went overseas on 4 November 1914. At some point he was posted to the 2nd Battalion and finally to the 16th battalion. The battalion were on front line trench duties prior to the Battle of Third Ypres. Henry was one of two 16th battalion men to be killed on 1 July 1917 whilst serving in the line at “West Lane”, Ypres
