Family history

Horace Ingle was born on 8th February 1875 at Rendlesham,Suffolk , he was the son of the late Henry Ingle a farm baliff and Jane Ingle née Evans.

His father was born in 1815 at Colsterworth, Lincolnshire, he died in 1891 aged 76 yrs, his mother Jane Evans was born in 1838 at Cardiff they were married on 9th December 1866 at St Marys Church, Lambeth, Surrey, they went on to have 8 children.

In the 1911 census Horace has left his home address he is living at the Royal Oak public house Narrow Marsh Nottingham he is 36 yrs, single and is a waiter and groom.

Military history

Lance Corporal Horace Ingle enlisted on 2nd December 1915 at Oldham, he initially served with the service number 4425 with the Manchester Regiment. , he landed in France on 5th August 1916, He was promoted to Lance Corporal on 25th August 1916 he was transferred to the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. on 9th September 1916. He was killed in action on 9th September 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Theipval Memorial.

'Ingle. Previously reported missing on September 9th 1916 now believed killed on that date, Lance Corporal Horace Ingle Loyal North Lancs Regt aged 42 of Nottingham. Son of Henry and the late Jane Ingle.'
