William Henry Marriott was born in 1884 at Nottingham, he was the husband of Ada Greenberry (born 22nd April 1887 ) they were married in 1909 at Nottingham, they had 2 children, William Ernest born 20th August 1911 and Hilda Marriott born 24th March 1916 .

They lived at 54 Whittier Road Sneinton Nottingham and are at this address on the 1911 census, William Henry 26 yrs is a carter, he is living withhs wife Ada 25 yrs a machinsit.

Commencing 4th February 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 22 shillings and 11 pence a week.

Military history

Private William Henry Marriott enlisted at Nottingham he served with the 4th battalion Grenadier Guards, he died of wounds on 22nd July 1917, he is buried at Mendinghem Military Cemetery, Belgium

'Marriott. Killed in action July 22nd 1917 Private W H Marriott Grenadier Guards aged 33, beloved husband of Ada Marriott of 54 Whittier Road. He left his home one evening intending to come back, far from those who loved him best but now he has entered eternal rest. - From his broken hearted wife and two children.'

'Marriott. Killed in action July 22nd 1917 Private W H Marriott Grenadier Guards aged 33. He sleeps not in his native land but 'neath some foreign sky far away from those who loved him in a hero's grave he lies.- From broken hearted mother, father, sisters, brother, Annie also Joe (from France).'
