Military history

Private Joseph Arthur Beardall enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1/6th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action, 1st July 1917, in the attack on the German line west of Lens, France.

Nottingham Evening Post Roll of Honour 26/7/1917:

'Beardall. Killed in action July 1st Private A Beardall Sherwood Foresters aged 30 years. I think I see his smiling face as he bade his last goodbye, and he left his hime forever in a distant land to die: but the hardest part is yet to come when the heroes all return and I miss among the cheering crowd the face of my loved one. - Sorrowing wife.'
