John Albert Thacker was born in 1896 at Nottingham, he was the grandson of Samuel and Harriett Lester of Gough Street, Nottingham.

In the 1911 census he was a butcher's errand boy 14 yrs he is living with his grandparents Samuel Tester 52 yrs a frame work knitter and Harriett Tester 53 yrs of age they were living at 22 Gough Street, Fisher Street, Nottingham.

He was engaged to Gertie at the time of his death.

Military history

Lance Sergeant John Albert Thacker enlisted at Nottingham, he served with 17th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he died on 3rd September and is buried at the Ancre British Cemetery Beaumont Hamel Grave Reference: VI F 28
