Charles Richard Lee was born in 1886 the son of William, a carter who died in 1910 aged 56, and Sarah Ann Lee (née Read) Lee.
Charles’s father was born in 1855 at Nottingham and his mother in 1859 at Yoxhall, Staffordshire. Married in 1886 in Nottingham. Sarah Ann had two children William Henry Read b.1881 and Mable Gertrude Read b.1883.
William and Sarah had six children five surviving infancy - Charles b.1886, William b.1888, Herbert b.1889, Leonard b.1895 and Florence b.1897.
In 1901 the family lived at 7 Haywood Street and in 1911 at 28 Kingsley Road (both Sneinton Nottingham.
Charles Richard married Mabel Jennison (born 28th October 1882) in 1907 at Nottingham and they had three children Iris born 5th June 1909 Phyllis born 5th June 1911 and Nancy Doreen born 4th May 1913, They lived at 94 Noel Street Hyson Green Nottingham.
Commencing 20th August 1917 hs widow was awarded a pension of 26 shillings and 3 pence a week.
Private Charles Richard Lee enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 2/5th battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry he died of bronchitis on 5th February 1917 he is buried at Varenes Military Cemetery Grave Reference: I H 48

“LEE. – On February 5th, of acute bronchitis, in France, Private Charles Richard Lee, K.O.Y.L.I., the dearly-loved husband of Mabel Lee. – Sorrowing wife, family, and sisters (94, Noel-street).
“LEE. – On February 5th, in France, of acute bronchitis, Private Charles Lee, beloved brother of George Lee, Berridge-road.
