Family history

John Allen was born in 1897 at Nottingham, he was the son Arthur a warehouse man, and Mary Allen (née Milford)

His father was born in 1865 at Bulwell he died in 1906 aged 42yrs his mother Mary Milford in 1867 at Nottingham she died in 1910 aged aged 43 yrs, they were married in 1885 at Nottingham, they had five children - Annie b.1887, Mary b.1889, Florence H b.1891, John b.1896 and Jane b.1900.

In 1901 they lived at 87 Beverley Street St Ann’s Nottingham.

In the 1911 census John 14 yrs of age and an errand boy is living with his uncle George Milford, 46 yrs a a warehouseman and his family at 47 Cranmer Street, Nottingham.

John Allen's address at the time of his death was 39 Coppice Road Nottingham (now Ransom Road) [Nottingham Evening Post photograph caption].

Military history

Private John Allen enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1st battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he landed in France on 13th September 1915, he died of wounds on 30th June 1917 and is buried at Lijssenthoek Miliitary Cemetery.
