Harold Ernest Holland was born on 22nd July 1895, he was baptised on 7th October 1895 at St Ann's Nottingham, the son of John Thomas a house painter and Louisa Holland (née Loach).
His father was born in 1872 at Horncastle Lincolnshire his mother in 1873 at Carlton Nottingham. Married June 1st 1895 at Nottingham, they had three children, all born at Nottingham - Harold b.1895, Mabel b.1899 and Leslie b.1903.
In 1911 the family lived at 2 Ritson Terrace Hawkridge Street St Ann’s Nottingham but Harold lived next door with his grandparents Frank and Emma Pegg.
Driver Harold Ernest Holland enlisted at Nottingham, he servd with D' Bty 70th Bde Royal Field Artillery
Harold Holland MM & Bar enlisted at Nottingham. He landed in France on 8th July 1915. His Military Medal award was reported in the London Gazette 18th June 1917 and the Bar in the London Gazette 23rd August 1917. He was killed in action on 2nd September 1918 he is buried at Faubourg D’Amiens Cemtery Arras Grave Reference VI F 45
It was reported on 23rd December 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post Harold Holland’s Military Medal & Bar had been presented to his grandmother.
‘POSTHUMOUS HONOUR FOR NOTTINGHAM SOLDIER.
The Military Medal and bar have been awarded to Driver Harold E. Holland, Royal Field Artillery, of 3, Ritson-Terrace, Hawkridge Street, Nottingham, who was killed in action on September 3rd last. [sic] He was 23 years of age. The medal and bar have been received by his grandmother, Mrs. Pegg, with whom he resided.’
