Family history

George Thomas Hyde was born in 1888 he was the son of Henry a stationary engine driver and Sarah Hyde née Berry and the brother of Annie, Marie, Ernest, Arthur and Joseph Hyde.

His father Henry was born in 1854 at Ticknall, Derbyshire, his mother Sarah Berry was born in 1857 at Carlton, Nottingham, they were married in 1877 at Nottingham, they went on to have 9 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood.

In 1901 they lived at 7 Thorneywood Lane Sneinton Hill Nottingham.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 222 Pretoria Cottages, Sneinton Hill, Nottingham, Henry 57 yrs a stationary engine driver is living with his wife Sarah 54 yrs and their 2 sons, Joseph 15 yrs a hairdresser and Arthur 17 yrs a sailor.

Military history

Lance Corporal George Hyde, originally enlisted on 2nd March 1911 at Nottingham, he was a town lad and served with the 11th Hussars. He landed in France on 15th August 1914 and was killed in action 13th October 1914. He is buried in Meteren Military Cemetery.11th (Prince Albert's Own) Hussars
