Family history

William Thomas Brown was born in 1883. he married Alice Newton (born 23rd August 1881) in 1902 at Nottingham. They had five children, one of whom died in infancy. Their surviving children, all born at Basford, were George b.orn 25th July 1902, Alice Maud born 24th February 1905, Frances Mary born 23rd April 1907, and Agnes b13th November 1909 and William Thomas born 8th December 1913. of 115 Northgate, Basford Nottingham

In 1911 census the family lived at 4 Collison Terrace Scotholme Street Hyson Green William Thomas Brown 28 yrs is a brewery labourer, he is living with his wife Alice 29 yrs and their children, George 8 yrs a scholar, Alice Maud 6 yrs , Fanny 4 yrs of age and Agnes 1 year of age.

Commencing 17th November 1916 his widow was awarded a pension of 24 shillings and 6 pence a week.

His widow remarried on 23rd September 1916 to John Coucom a railway plate layer.

Military history

William Thomas Brown enlisted at Nottingham and served with 12th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers. He landed in France on 9th September 1915 and died of wounds at No. 23 Casualty Clearing Station.

He is buried in Lapugnoy Military Cemetery Grave Reference: I D 38

Extra information

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission records his death taking place on 30th September 1915. However, UKSWD, the register of the disposal of his personal effects and a newspaper report all cite 1st October 1915.
