Ernest Edward was born in 1886 the son of Edward a cab proprietor and Hannah Ada Dyer (née Pidcock) who died in 1900 aged 50.
His father was born in 1843 at Stathern Leicestershire, his mother in 1850 at Nottingham. They were married in 1879 at Nottingham and lived at Bridge House at Oxton where Edward was a licensed victualler.
They had four children, all born at Nottingham: Jessie b.1882, Ernest Edward b.1886, Hilda Mary b.1890 and Olive b.1891 (died 1893).
In 1911 Ernest Edward lived with his widowed father at 56 Turney Street Meadows Nottingham.
Ernest married Grace Blackmore (born 20th March 1890)on 17th February 1912 at St Andrews Church, Nottingham, they had two children both born at Nottingham, Gwendoline b26th June 1912 and Frank born 29th August 1915 they lived at 2 Falcon Grove, Sherwood Rise, Nottingham
Commencing 24th December 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 22 shillings and 11 pence a week.
Private Ernest Edward Dyer enlisted at Nottingham and initially served with the Sherwood Foresters (68763) later transferring to the Tyneside Irish. He was killed in ation on 28th April 1917, he is bured at Browns Copse Cemetery, Roeux, France. Grave Reference: III E 9

'DYER. – In loving memory of Pte. E. E. Dyer (Northumberland Fusiliers), killed in action in France April 28th, 1917. – Father, sisters, Jessie and Hilda.'
'DYER. – In loving memory of my dear husband, our dear daddy, Ernest Dyer, killed in action April 28th, 1917. Always in our thoughts. – Wife and children.'
